The 1st Annual Sherwood Park Highland Gathering and Ceilidh was a huge success. The games saw over 5500 people in attendance and was a fantastic day! Pipes and Drums, Highland Dancers and Heavy Games competitors from across Alberta, Canada and North America competed and provided entertainment for the spectators. We hosted the “Kids Zone” including mini heavy games, bouncy castles and the incredibly popular face painting courtesy of Sweet Cheeks Fun and Beauty.
Band President and Bagpiper competed for the 1st time at the Grade V level and place 2nd to take home the silver medal in the “Slow Air” competition. Iain and Matt Sibbald also took part in the massed band ceremonies during the games representing our band and Department for the 1st time in an official event.
The Ceilidh was an incredible night packed full of live music, dancing and pipes and drums performances. Bands included: St. James’ Gate, Viscount Park Pipe Band and North Stratton Pipe Band. Mattierin School of Irish Dance provided the Irish Dance performances and members of the RCMP Highland Dancers showed off their skills along side North Stratton. We are excited for next years Highland Gathering and are so happy to have been involved with the organization and planning of such a great community event.
